I would agree; the most common problem with those who shun philosophy is--surprise, surprise--the failure to do exactly what philosophy is best at: Question the very position from which one speaks. Ergo, one can simply rely on certain authorities, the results of sedimented historical processes; dictionaries, "common sense," etc.
